A Livable Planet for Our Children
Sustainable Middleborough is a local nonprofit powered by volunteers. Our goal is to help folks in town save energy and money through weatherization and more energy-efficient homes.
We have created a Weatherization Guide just for Middleborough residents. In 2024 we hired a Weatherization Navigator to help local households one-on-one, to speak to groups, and to be on hand at events around town.
Since 2017 we have successfully advocated with local and state officials for more ambitious energy policies and ways to make our community energy efficient and sustainable. We also sponsor free workshops and annual Cooler Middleborough Fairs.
All our work grows out of our vision of a livable planet for generations to come. Click below to see what we’ve accomplished and how it can help you!
Hey Middleborough! Want to save hundreds on heating & cooling?
Our Weatherization Guide will walk you through the steps to saving energy in your home—and how to pay for them. It’s the only place where you can find every local, state, and federal rebate, tax credit, and financing program that Middleborough residents are eligible for!

Sustainable Middleborough is thrilled to welcome Hayden Kane to our team as our Weatherization Navigator.
Hayden will help local residents, building owners, and business owners through the often-confusing process of weatherizing their homes and buildings in order to save money and energy—and how to pay for those improvements.
READ MOREWhat is “weatherization” anyway?
Whole-house weatherization is adding insulation to the walls, attic, and basement of your home and sealing up all the air leaks where heat escapes. It can also mean installing a more efficient heating/cooling system when the time comes to replace your old one.
Why should I invest in insulation and energy efficiency?
Because it saves you MONEY! Your house will be warmer in winter. And it’s the best step we each can take to reduce pollution and carbon emissions in our town.
How much can I save?
Most people save 15%-20% or more of their heating and cooling costs, hundreds of dollars every year. That dollar amount will go UP, as oil and gas prices go up. We’ve been gathering stories of local people who have cut their heating bills as much as 40% or even 50%!
How much time and money will this take?
We’re not going to lie. Weatherization is a project, but you can start small and make a plan you can do over months or years that works for you. And you can get some or all of it paid for—up to 100% of the cost if you meet income guidelines.
