Our Local Utility Rebates
Middleborough Gas & Electric offers weatherization and energy efficiency rebates, available to all Middleborough residents.
As one of four towns in the state that operates its own utility for both gas and electric, Middleborough residents do not qualify for MassSave rebates or 0% HEAT loans.
How do I get my rebate?
You must get a FREE energy assessment from Energy New England to qualify for these rebates. Schedule your assessment at 888-772-4242, hea@ene.org, or online.
You can get a 50% rebate up to a $1,000 for insulation (attic, walls, basement, rim joists, including ventilation). If you are already qualified for Middleborough Gas & Electric’s low-income rate (you can apply here), you can get a 100% rebate up to $1,500.
You can also get a 50% rebate up to $500 for air sealing (caulking, weather stripping, gaskets, and wrapping pipes). Low-income rate customers can get a 100% rebate up to $750.
Save your receipts and invoices! You will need an itemized invoice from your contractor showing that you have paid. You must apply for anything you spend during the previous calendar year by January 31. You can apply for your rebate online from Energy New England. If you have questions, email rebates@ene.org or call 888-772-4242.
If your rebate is less than $500, it will be a credit on your Middleborough Gas & Electric bill. If it’s more than $500, you’ll get a check. Our members report that checks can take several months.
NEED A NEW HEATING SYSTEM TOO?
The G&E also has rebates for electric heat pump systems that both heat and cool your house and heat pump hot-water heaters. You can find a list of those and other rebates for smart thermostats, electric appliances, lawn equipment, solar installations, electric vehicles, and charging stations on the G&E’s Home Energy Savings page.
“
“I’m the town’s biggest cheerleader for insulation. I have a small 1970s ranch house. The first summer, I could feel the heat coming through the ceiling. First thing I did was take a weekend and lay down a double layer of R30 insulation batts over what was there. I cut my oil bill in half. I sometimes get by on just one 275-gallon tank a year. Maybe it’s because I’m a cheapskate, but I love cutting my energy costs. I’ve helped some of my friends insulate, too.”
— Dan Farley, G&E Commissioner and former G&E employee
DID YOU KNOW?
Middleborough still has one of the lowest electric rates in the state at about 15 cents/kilowatt-hour! Our neighbors in nearby towns pay 30, 40, maybe even 50 cents/kWh at times. Our natural gas prices are much more volatile and go up every winter. It’s a good time to electrify.
