Sustainable Middleborough is thrilled to welcome Hayden Kane to our team as our Weatherization Navigator.
Hayden will help local residents, building owners, and business owners through the often-confusing process of weatherizing their homes and buildings in order to save money and energy—and how to pay for those improvements.
Middleborough and Lakeville residents are eligible for a whole array of rebates, tax credits, financing, and other incentives from local, state, and federal agencies for energy improvements. But figuring out how they can be accessed and combined is not easy.
The process to insulate a home or building or install energy-efficient heat pumps for heating and cooling has many steps and takes time. The Weatherization Navigator can help.
Hayden is available for one-on-one consultations by phone, Zoom, or in person at his weekly office hours at the Middleborough Housing Authority, 8 Benton Street. Along with other Sustainable Middleborough leaders, he is also available to speak to your community or church group. He will also help the group’s team continue their free workshop series. Upcoming topics include how to find a contractor, insulation and air sealing you can do yourself, and how to make your landscape weather resilient.
Hayden studied environmental science and management information systems at Stonehill College, doing research on 300-some municipal climate action plans.
“It’s been great to help local residents through what can be a really challenging process by sharing what I’ve learned,” Hayden says. “I’m looking forward helping more folks in Middleborough find ways to afford home improvements that will help them save energy and money on their utility bills.”
The Weatherization Navigator position is funded by a three-year grant from the EmPower program from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center. Sustainable Middleborough previously received an EmPower grant to create a Weatherization Guide for local residents.
